3 classmates detained for boy’s death in Delhi school

Class 9 student, was found unconscious by some students in his school washroom at around 11 am on Thursday and was taken to a hospital. He was later referred to the GTB Hospital where he was declared brought dead.

The CCTV footage from the Jeevan Jyoti School revealed that student had a fight with some students near the washroom. Three of the students seen in the CCTV footage have been detained, said a senior police officer, adding that they were around 15 years of age. The fourth student involved in the attack is on the run, the police said.

Student’s family members alleged that he died after being thrashed by the students. On the basis of a complaint by the boy’s family, a case has been registered.

According to police, the CCTV footage shows that five people, including the deceased, were seen fighting inside the washroom. “After scanning the CCTV footage, we transferred the case registered under Section 304 to Section 302 (murder). We have found that he had a fight with four students. He fell down after he received punches during the fight and died later,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Northeast) Ajit K Singla.

Earlier, the family alleged that school authorities were trying to shield the students involved in the fight.

Local residents along with the boy’s family members staged a protest at the Karawal Nagar Chowk on Thursday and demanded a probe into the matter.

According to the school management, student was allegedly suffering from diarrhoea, which led to his death. AGENCIES
